THE OLD SCHOOL REUNION II
Back when you were young and innocent, sexologists MC Rob Base and Candyman taught you about the birds and bees. Namely, that it takes two and involves huggin’ and tuggin’ and rubbin’. Since their advice proved invaluable (or as Rob Base boasted, “I got the clout, shout—hooooo!”) in your youth, now’s the time to show some respect as adults by getting funky when they rock the mics at the Old School Reunion II at the Spotlight 29 Casino. Joining them are Rick James’ prodigies the Mary Jane Girls, whose 1985 jam “In My House” promised visitors all sorts of goodies, along with Johnny O, Evelyn Champagne King, Afrika Bambaataa’s Soulsonic Force (whose album Planet Rock invented electro funk), and synth-pop geniuses Trinere, who were like total BFF collaborators with Debbie Deb. You know you still got those baggy, high-waisted purple jeans in your closet, and there’s never been a better excuse to break ‘em out and start the booty-shaking. And if those Cross Colors are loose enough, you can totally smuggle in a bottle of Asti Spumante, and at the perfect moment, pop off the top and rock wit your posse. (Amy Nicholson)
