Roxy Snow Classic and USASA Competitions

With 20-inches of recent snowfall (fresh pow-dah, yo), this is the time of year to strap on a board and head to Bear Mountain. If you’re one of those who like to perform stoopid aerials via the halfpipe—deemed a “way of life” by the initiated—check out the USASA competition on January 20, an organized event put on by the grassroots club to help you increase the amplitude of those rarifed Haakonflips. This is a chance for all of you boys and girls (and grown-ups) to graduate from simple grabs to a 360 air to cabs in front of actual somebodies rather than the figments of your imagination. The seventh-annual Roxy Snow Classic ($30 registration) is also happening this Sunday, a slopestyle event for female riders to take their minds off the popular summer surf competition. Win it and you’ll gain an auto-bid to the qualifying round of the Roxy Chicken Club—but get there early as the event is open only to the first 100 participants. The snow is right, the bunnies are hot—it’s time to tap your inner Heikki Sorsa and make yourself abominable. Just know your limitations—don’t break your neck getting cute out there. (Braxton Leeds)
