Best Live Venue (21 and Older)

Of course Angel’s Sports Bar is a quadruple experience with the adjoining strip joint, the big fights being shown (UFC/boxing/patrons), the fried chicken—but when it comes to checking out bands in the intimacy of a small(ish) room, there are none better. And indeed the death metal sludge does translate better here—if you were at the K626 show this past May your ears are still bleeding. Who can forget the night Short Dawg brought the house down holding his mic like a trick cigar, or when The Deluge added ten years of artistic culture to the place in a single set? Total non sequitur: The last time we were in Angel’s a man insisted we leave the smoking room so he could have some private time with his girl, apparently out on a work release of some kind. You just never know. (Stan Bolinowitz)
