Best Place to Feel Excessive/Remorseful Within An Hour’s Time

Posted October 9, 2008 in Feature Story

A faded sign, grub that actually gives you a hangover and tables that can be as greasy as the food—it doesn’t exactly scream check me out but George’s Drive In is worth a stop. For one, it’s a throwback to a ’50s-style drive in, with everything sans the waitresses on roller skates. For two, while the fried mushrooms, gyros, and chili-cheese fries may leave you feeling a smidge ill after the meal, it’s pure maniacal bliss while it’s going down the pike. For three, you’re helping to keep alive a Riverside tradition since the ’60s. If the original patrons were alive today, they’d tell you there’s only one George’s—but they’re not, in no small part thanks to George’s. (Bill Gerdes)
