For us flatlanders, trudging through the snow can be fun—well, for about the first half-minute. After such moments elapse, you’re panting, you’re sweating (yeah, even though temps are mingling in the teens) and you’re daydreaming about strolling in downtown Riverside with your shorts and flip-flops. To rid yourself of such premonitory anguish, let the engine do the work by mounting your rear on a snowmobile. DJ’s Snowmobile Adventures offers a host of packages to suit just about any sightseer’s needs, from hour-long introductory family rides (starting around $65) within the 500-acre open area of Smokey Bear Flat Snowmobile Park to scenic self-guided tours and more extensive backcountry guided tours. For the lovebirds, there’s even a newly-offered romantic getaway excursion package, which includes a guided tour plus accommodations at June Lake Junction. You’ll need a driver’s license to operate a snowmobile, but you’ll also need your sense of fun—that is, without the strain of the white stuff gettin’ in your way. (Waleed Rashidi)
