Monday Night Football doesn’t start for another week, so why not kickstart this week with a VJ set by indie hip-hop vet Peanut Butter Wolf. The DJ will be coming to More Fire Mondays at Sevilla as part of his 999 Tour, a Converse-backed event in which the Cali native hits nine area codes in nine nights performing all ’90s videos. PBW, who cashes checks as Chris Manak, entered the hip-hop scene 20 years ago producing the Lyrical Prophecy track “You Can’t Swing This.” Though he did a lot of production in the early years, Wolf soon established himself as DJ artist and eventually founded Stones Throw Records in ’96. The label’s released notable albums over the years by artists like Madlib, J Dilla and MF Doom in addition to the founder’s own DJ discs. Mixing things up, so to speak, the 999 Tour trades turntables for DVD decks for a live video remix set. Wolf is delving more into the A/V music scene as evidenced by his MySpace page, which features several Michael Jackson video remixes. Too bad the gloved one’s best work was in the Reagan-era as Wolf’s Sevilla “More Fire Mondays” set will focus entirely on the ’90s. Still, the pre-Y2K decade was one of the best for modern music—and not just for bringing us the Wolf.
