Margaret Cho

It’s Cho before bros when activist-comedian Margaret Cho kicks off her fall tour, which includes this performance at Agua Caliente Casino. But did ya know that Cho can sing? Apparently, the stand-up provocateur (after all, skewering sexuality and race relations are her bread-and-butter) has been honing her skills as a recording artist and kept busy working on a comedy music album (Guitarded, due out in 2010) with help from Patty Griffin, Grant Lee Phillips and others. Expect a pretty, shall we say, interesting tracklisting from the Notorious C.H.O. However, to be fair, this isn’t the first time Cho’s dipped her toes into music, having launched a burlesque-style show (“The Sensuous Woman”) in 2007, co-written a rap song called “My Puss” and appeared in music videos for the Dresden Dolls and the Cliks. Her current tour will be a mix of her stand-up, live music—and new material. The Agua Caliente stop is the last show of her current tour, so you can bet your Drop Dead Diva Season 1 DVD that Cho’s gonna rock the house this Friday. Hey, maybe she’ll do some bellydancing (something the comedian took up a few years ago)? Maybe the return of M.C. M.C. (her comedic rap moniker)? Either way, it’s Cho time!

Margaret Cho w/Ian Harvie, John Roberts at Agua Caliente Casino, 32-250 Bob Hope Drive, Rancho Mirage, (760) 202-2111;, $35-$55.
