Who says West Hollywood and San Francisco have to have all the fun? The new installment of the Riverside – Inland Empire Pride event is slated for this weekend in downtown Riverside with the holy mission of showing the world that gay, lesbian, bi and transsexual are just another way of living out here in the IE. Oh, and there is plenty of star power behind this event: ’80s pop icon Tiffany (the Britney before Britney—minus the meltdowns) is one of the scheduled live performers as well as headliner and Grammy legend Thelma Houston (who performed on American Idol earlier this year and on America’s Got Talent last month. Speaking of Idol, Frenchie Davis, an R&B singer in her own right and semi-finalist from American Idol’s second season (disqualified for some racy pix she did), is also on the bill. Take a break from The V.I.P. and The Menagerie scene—oh, who are we kidding, they’re gonna be here!—and show your pride and support to this event, maybe even thumb your nose at that lousy Prop. 8 camp while you’re at it. The event will also benefit the Jeffery Owens Community Center, one of the burgeoning resources for the LGBT community.
Riverside Inland Empire Pride 2009 at White Park (Market and 9th streets) in downtown Riverside, www.riversideiepride.org. Sat, 10AM-10PM. $15.
