If the shoe fits, share it. That’s the idea behind TOMS Shoes, a Santa Monica-based footwear company that’s helping kids get a step ahead. It works like this: You buy a pair of their Argentine alpargata-style shoes (or other items) and they donate a pair to a child in need. In just three years, the company has extensively expanded its shoe lines, including collaborations with Element and others, and donated over 300,000 pairs with a goal to top a million by 2012. The company also hosts global Shoe Drop Tours to get the free footwear out to places like Ethiopia, where Shoe Drops take place five days per week. Early this year, Dave Matthews Band even sponsored a Vagabond Tour of college campuses to raise awareness, and many other musical artists continue to get involved. This brings us to Friday’s benefit show at the Vault. T. Mills, an electro-pop rocker with a vocal-tweak flair that would make will.i.am proud, is headlining a concert as part of a TOMS Shoes benefit. The heavily tattooed singer is currently promoting his Finders Keepers EP on Laguna Beach indie Uprising Records. Other participating acts include Scarlet Gray, Park Lane, Sam Larson, Kevin Salvador and BradxPit.
