If your idea of a good time involves watching fist-sized discs of black rubber reaching speeds of 100 mph—or more—then there’s a good chance you’ve paid a visit to the Citizen Business Bank Arena, the home of the local hockey ruffians that make up the Ontario Reign team. Need another reason to return to the rink? How about an ice-cool exhibition game? For two days, the arena will be hosting the 2010 ECHL All-Star Game and Skills Competition. Players from 20 teams all over the U.S. and Canada will come together like Voltron, including four Reign players: forwards Greg Hogeboom and Peter Lenes, right wing Jon Rheault and defenseman David Walker—who just happened to have been our 2009 “Best Reign Hockey Player” in our “Best Of IE” issue. No wonder as Walker, a native of Nova Scotia, was known for his goals and assists as much as for his penalty minutes before he joined Ontario’s finest. On Tuesday, the spectacle will be watching athletes from both the American and National conferences bust hockey stick moves like Hardest Shot, Puck Control Relay, Accuracy Shooting, Fastest Skater, Rapid Fire and the Breakaway Relay. Then it’s Fan Fest time at Dave & Busters. But Wednesday is when the rubber meets the rink for the All-Star Game. We can almost taste the ice spray.
