Crazy, crazy for feeling so blue . . . crazy for missing this back-by-popular-demand music tribute brought to you by the good folks at the Candlelight Pavilion in Claremont. The spirit of Patsy Cline is heartily invoked by performer Lisa Layne (who reprises the role), who recreates the musical phenomenon and artist credited with bridging the chasm between pop and country formats with her crossover chart successes. If you’re looking for Patsy’s hits, they’re all here: “Crazy,” “She’s Got You,” “Sweet Dreams,” “I Fall to Pieces”—call this a best-of collection brought to life and put on stage. Layne—backed by a live band—sings all the songs, and you can expect a polished, down-home delivery as she’s been performing as Patsy in both productions of Always as well as A Closer Walk With Patsy Cline for over 10 years. Not to mention the fact that this Nashville-groomed artist has performed concerts nationwide. Always is the brainchild of Ted Swindley and his tale spells out the true story of Patsy’s friendship with Louise Seger (played by Candlelight patron fav Beth Mendoza), a housewife from Houston. It’ll be five weeks of country duds and legendary music so don’t end up walkin‘ after midnight to catch this show.
Always . . . Patsy Cline opens Fri, Jan. 8, at the Candlelight Pavilion Dinner Theater, 455 Foothill Blvd., Claremont, (909) 626-1254; www.candlelightpavilion.com. Thru Feb. 7.
