Atreyu, The Used

Posted January 21, 2010 in

Yeah, you can say Atreyu’s paid its dues. The pride of the OC’s metalcore scene made a big splash with its 2002 indie label debut, Suicide Notes and Butterfly Kisses, which dared to tear a page from the chugga-chugga Hatebreed handbook and spike it with some Poison The Well-flavored screamo. Two years later, the band bludgeoned the masses with follow-up The Curse (which went on to sell more 300,000 copies) and then made themselves one of the It bands of the Taste of Chaos and Ozzfest circuits. Though the Atreyu boys currently call major label Hollywood Records home (Congregation of the Damned hit the streets last October), by no means has the band toned down its super-heavy riffage and schizo combination of soaring vocals and throat-shredding roars. We’re sure the fans like it that way, and even sweeter is the fact that the band’s latest winter tour dates include The Used. Full disclosure: These two Atreyu shows aren’t in the IE . . . but we just think they’re so awesome and can’t-miss that we don’t think folks would mind the extra drive down the 91.
