Harlem Globetrotters

Sure, you loved them—or at least their animated versions—when they were the special guests on Scooby-Doo, but there’s nothing like the real flesh-and-blood Harlem Globetrotters to remind you that playing hoops can be as much about humor as it is about hops. Spinning basketballs on their eyeballs and dribbling with their ankles—or something like that—The ’Trotters are set to launch their “Magical Memories” World Tour in SoCal this week. Lucky for us, the tour includes a stop at the Citizens Business Bank Arena, and if your nonstop viewing of The Amazing Race (in which ’Trotters Big Easy Lofton and Flight Time Lang were contestants) stoked an interest in this historic ball-handling exhibition franchise, prepare for some gravity-defying—heck, throw Newtonian laws of motion out the friggin‘ window!—showmanship for this local tour stop. Sure, there are guys like Kobe and LeBron, but—athletic wizardry notwithstanding—they don’t have cool names like Handles Franklin and Hi Rise Brown. You can already hear the fans whistling  “Sweet Georgia Brown.”

The Harlem Globetrotters at Citizens Business Bank Arena, 4000 Ontario Center Pkwy., Ontario, (909) 244-5500; www.cbbankarena.com, www.harlemglobetrotters.com. Mon, Feb. 15, 1PM. Tickets $17-$160.
