Roots Collective Reggae Festival

While many look outside the 951 and 909 area codes when it comes to roots and conscious music, the IE’s little known secrets include the gems of cred-heavy reggae shows that crop up pretty consistently across the calendar. There was that festival held last year at Pitzer College that featured Warrior King, an off-the-chain Barrington Levy performance at Stinger’s in San Bernardino plus an Eek-A-Mouse appearance at the Purple Haze ganja celebration, also in San Berdoo. Goldenvoice’s got Jah love too and present to you this inaugural Roots Collective Reggae Festival to help you get those irie feeling on as you end the weekend. The lineup features Grand Marquis, The Bashments, Lady Dred, Inity, King Ras John, Junior Toots and General Jah Mikey. Longtime one-man reggae booster club Junor Francis will be MC’ing the daylong event—so consider this no less than a stamp of approval from a higher authority. And for a taste of the “real” drum-and-bass, special guest Abba Roots Hi-Fi Sound System will be providing all your dubplate pleasures. Who needs the Long Beach Arena?

Roots Collective Reggae Festival w/Shinehead, General Jah Mikey and others at The Glass House, 200 W. 2nd St., Pomona, (909) 865-3802; Sun, March 28. Doors open 2PM. $15 advance, $20 door. All ages.
