Rain Brings Weather

“We’ve been told we sound like either Nirvana or an older Staind.”

You’ve got to hand it to a band like Rain Brings Weather. While the trio could perform like any other faceless, generic alternative rock trio at your you-name-it local watering hole, banging out their power-chord propelled wares all the while melding into the background like a dusty jukebox, truth is, the group’s just not about doing that.

As Drake Chaos, Rain Brings Weather’s drummer (and former bassist) tells us, the Ontario-based group is all about upping their stage ante with ever-changing themed gigs, always gunning for memorable performances.

“All the themes were thought up by [frontman] Dewey [B. Weather] and he takes care of all the [theme] coordinating, but one show that sticks out was the Crazy Tie Night, it ended up being a really fun show,” says Chaos, who adds that the gig included a dance-off competition (yeah, really!). “But the reason for the themes was to bring a little more to the table than just going to the bar to watch bands play and have a couple drinks. It’s just for fun, which is what we feel it’s all about.”

The fun originally got “into the zone” at AutoZone—yes, the automotive parts retailer—out of all places, where according to Chaos, Weather had met the band’s original drummer. And from there, the rock storm brewed, adding bassist Rodney Rains along the way. And of course, there was the band’s initial theme, stemming from its name—which is about giving it their all—setting the course as well.

“What I take from it is that with problems come more problems,” says Chaos. “When it rains, it pours, so live your life to the fullest and try not to worry about those things.”

Speaking of a fulfilled musical life, Chaos notes that the current roster is in the midst of releasing its full-length album with all-new material, of which they hope to deliver to fans pronto. All Chaos needs is an inspirational dose from a rather unlikely source.

“I just play the drums,” he laughs. “I’m influenced by my dog, Notorious P.U.G.!”
