Wipe those tears away. We know, spring training has wound down. But look at the bright side: We’ve got two great games today involving four kick-ass teams. First, the Inland Empire 66ers—the Advanced Single-A Minor League affiliate of the Dodgers—will kick things off squaring up against their cross-town rivals, the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes (the Angels’ farm team). The 66ers will be bat-deep in enemy territory (that’s what we call the Epicenter), but we’re feeling mighty confident cuz we’ve got a load of unconfirmed insider secrets about the 66ers’ secret weapons. The local sewing circle tells us that pitchers Aaron Miller and Ethan Martin are considered No. 3 and No. 4 prospects, respectively. Miller, you will recall, was a first-round pick in ’09, which is definitely a good thing. Kyle Russell, Nathan Eovaldi (No. 13 prospect) and Brian Cavazos-Galvez are also being whispered about. But by the time you read this and the guys get off the bus from spring training, we’ll all have a clearer idea of how the men have been separated from the boys. Also, the Lake Elsinore Storm, the affiliate team for the Padres, will face off today against the High Desert Mavericks. Play ball!
Inland Empire 66ers vs. Rancho Cucamonga Quakes at The Epicenter, 8408 Rochester Ave., Rancho Cucamonga, (909) 481-5252; www.ie66ers.com, www.rcquakes.com. Thurs, April 8. 7:05PM. $7-$11.
Lake Elsinore Storm vs. High Desert Mavericks at The Diamond, 500 Diamond Dr., Lake Elsinore, (951) 245-4487; www.stormbaseball.com, highdesert.mavericks.milb.com/index.jsp?sid=t504. Thurs, April 8. 7:05PM. $7-$10.
