Bassnectar doesn’t believe in rules. Limitations don’t exist for him. Hesitation—not in his vocabulary. So what does Bassnectar (his momma calls him Lorin Ashton, by the way) pay attention to? Drums—the heavier the better. Basslines as wobbly and hypnotic as a Peaches remix session. And DJing until 4 in the morning. When you’re a breakbeat terrorist and electronic music apostate, you can afford to be as raw and meticulous as Bassnectar is when it comes to recording and defining your musical modus operandi. Oh, and you can bet your IDM mixtape that this guy gets love as KRS-One, Perry Farrell (you can’t keep this guy away from the DJ booth, can ya?), STS9, 6Blocc, DJ Vadim and RJD2 are just some of the folks he’s collaborated with or done re-mixing for. But you don’t have to wait for the next Bonnaroo, Ultra or Coachella to get your pupil-dilating fix of Bassnectar and his crate-full of dance music insanity as he will be part of the four-stage all-night Audiotistic Festival scheduled for Saturday at the NOS Events Center in San Bernardino. The electro/hip-hop-flavored event will include Kid Cudi, Talib Kweli & DJ Hi-Tek, The Cool Kids, Eskmo and instrumentalist Daedelus, plus other sonic manipulators like dubstep mofo Rusko, DJ Craze, Nero and Breakage. Prepare for a bass-gasm.
