Ah, you gotta love Darcie Rickert of Darcie Rickert & the Ruffnecks fame. This gal’s ambitious. Ruffneck Days, this two-day celebration of All Things Rootsy and Americana, is her brainchild and, quite frankly, we couldn’t think of a better time than this weekend to hear that twang thang. Boasting two stages, Ruffneck Days reads like Vassar Clements’ diary jottings crossed with Saddle Creek Records’ roster (with a few names thrown in that followers of the Weekly’s “Band of the Week” profiles will fondly recall) once you sit for a spell and absorb the lineup: The High Class Hillbillies, Hot Rod Trio and The Mill Creek Boys (they’re playing Saturday), plus Danny Dean & the Homewreckers, The Border Hoppin‘ Boys and Amee Chapman & The Velvet Tumbleweeds (Sunday). Dust off the mandolin. Polish up that fiddle. And rouse up the jug band cuz we’re ruffing it this weekend once “The Hollywood Kings of Western Swing” (The Lucky Stars) and “The Rockabilly Queen” (Wanda Jackson) take control of the stage. Think Hootenanny but minus the Affliction T-shirts and OC attitude and with more boots. Hey, the Deering Banjo Company (not Rockstar Energy Drink!) is co-sponsoring the event—so you know this thing’s authentic.
