While Calico Ghost Town may be scaring up a frightfully good time at the end of this month, for three days this week, you’re invited to relive the somewhat lighter side of the town’s glory days at Calico Days. Not only does the event feature old-timey shenanigans like a Burro Run, a Miner’s Triathlon and a full-on gunfighting exhibition, but on Sunday, Calico Days will welcome country trio Stealing Angels all the way from Tennessee. If there’s a word to describe the Angels, it’s “pedigree”: the group is comprised of Tayla Lynn, granddaughter of country legend (and coal miner’s daughter) Loretta Lynn; Jennifer Wayne, granddaughter of “The Duke” himself, John Wayne; and Caroline Cutbirth, descendant of American folk icon Daniel Boone. The girls are currently working with acclaimed producer Paul Worley, who has worked with other notable country songbirds the Dixie Chicks and Martina McBride, on their debut album, which should be available early next year. In addition to Stealing Angels, guests will be treated to music from the likes of Billy Erickson and the Bandits, California Borderline, Cowbop and more. So brush off those boots and hit the ol‘ dusty trail when Calico Days rolls into town. Just leave your prospectin‘ pickaxe at home.
