With all due respect to drummer Niedermeier, Denmark’s HorrorPops are easily identified by a husband-and-wife duo front and center as conspicuous as they are groovy. On one side, the lovely Patricia Day, usually bedecked in a form-fitting dress, standing atop high heels next to an intricately painted stand-up bass; on the other, her guitarist hubby Kim Nekroman, sporting a larger-than-life pompadour so epic, it has its own religious following on Facebook (the awesomely-named Church of Nekroman’s Hair, which boasts a membership of nearly 160 Nekro-fans). Truth be told, there isn’t much that’s more readily associable with the fledgling genre of psychobilly than the HorrorPops (perhaps Nekroman’s other band, the eponymous Nekromantix, in which he regularly plucks away at a giant coffin-shaped bass). While fans eagerly awaiting a follow-up to 2008’s Kiss Kiss Kill Kill will have to keep waiting, all hope is not lost; the ‘Pops are currently in the midst of their 10 Days of the Dead mini-tour, wrapping up on Halloween night with a spooktacular date at The Glass House. So don’t worry if you’re a little too old for trick-or-treating; throw some Fop pomade in that ’do (unless you’re a Dapper Dan man) and have a ghoulish night out on the town.
