Dick Dale

Born Richard Anthony Monsour, he’s the King of Surf Guitar (and likely the only surf guitar purveyor anyone can name). He of “Misirlou” fame, a song that has seen everything from inclusion in the Guitar Hero series to being sampled by the Black Eyed Peas to a legendary role in Tarantino’s Pulp Fiction, you’d know him if you heard him (his licks even accompanied riders on Disneyland’s Space Mountain for several years). He’s Dick Dale, and he’s coming to Pappy & Harriet’s Palace in Pioneertown this Friday. The High Desert date, part of the Fender-presented “Electric Acoustic Guitar Tour,” promises not one, but two Dales; Dick’s son Jimmy will be playing right alongside dear old dad, who can still kick some serious ass at 73 years young. Pappy & Harriet’s is a venue that often offers deceptively high-profile acts, of which Dick Dale is clearly one. Seeing “Misirlou” performed live should be near the top of anyone’s bucket list, so here’s your chance to cross that baby off.

Dick Dale and Jimmy Dale at Pappy & Harriet’s, 53688 Pioneertown Rd., Pioneertown, (760) 365-5956; www.pappyandharriets.com, www.dickdale.com. Fri, Nov. 19, 8PM. $20.
