They may be named after a little-known Wes Craven flick from the early ’90s, but the only scary thing about People Under the Stairs is how easy they make their unique brand of underground hip-hop look. The SoCal duo emerged at the tail end of the 20th century (1997, to be precise), and since then have dropped no less than seven full-length albums, their most recent being 2009’s Carried Away. Fans of PUTS need to look no further than Pomona’s The Glass House, where they’ll be moving crowds alongside Express Fresh and Delta 9. Also worth noting of the Peeps, beside their lyrical acumen, is the upbeat, often humorous approach to a field so commonly populated with bravado and none-more-gangster-ishness. You want an example? Take a look at their sixth full-length, 2008’s Fun DMC. Not many lyricists these days would be so bold as to include the word “fun” in the title of one of their albums. But then again, People Under the Stairs are clearly not your everyday rappers.
