I Heart Hip Hop Show

Posted December 2, 2010 in

It’s back to where it all started. The I Heart Hip Hop event that first made a splash in the basement at Back 2 the Grind coffee shop in downtown Riverside is returning to the venue that helped give birth to the best set of beats and rhymes this side of Stones Throw. And it’s all in the name of creating a collective and unified hip-hop scene right here in the IE. And since organizers created this event as an alternative to corporate, major-label hip-hop, you can expect a back-to-basics approach here. We’re talking scratchin‘, b-boy battles and beat boxing. Oh, and did we mention there will be a freestyle open-mic session for any and all MCs brave enough to prove their lyrical ju-jitsu? Yup, you better believe mics will get checked. Scheduled performers include Hook, Foke Muzik and Preh. And in case you think these guys won’t put their money where their grill is, go to the show’s website for a free 6-track download. Free music! Top that, Def Jam!

I Heart Hip Hop show at Back to the Grind, 3575 University Ave., Riverside; www.ihearthiphop.bandcamp.com. Fri, Dec. 3. 7PM-midnight. $5. All ages.
