WAR, TOWER OF POWER
Yes, they’re the SoCal-based band that sung the anthem that’s accompanied every ground-scrapin‘, speed bump sparkin‘, slow-going street cruiser that’s rolled through the streets of Cali over the past few decades. GODSPEED YOU! BLACK EMPEROR
This Canadian post-rock outfit gets our nod for Band Name of the Year, which was reportedly taken from a Japanese documentary of the same name. Whatever its origins, the well-equipped ensemble (there are several musicians here) has released albums with equally intriguing titles like Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas to Heaven.

It’s amazing to think that Chloe Chaidez started Kitten at 13. But then again, it might not be all that amazing, considering that before she’d even entered her teens, she already was gigging on a scale that’s exponentially larger than bedrooms, garages or house parties. Opening are The Ready Aim Fire!, Salinger and The Sound of Pictures.
