It’s the world premiere of this fresh new musical that’s based on the life of Jesus Christ. Though it has Biblical foundations, including lyrics from scripture, the production’s as current as they come, being billed as a contemporary rock opera, replete with an on-stage rock band. Written by Sammy Oriti.

Opens Fri. Thru May 1. The Grove Theatre, 276 E. 9th St., Upland, (909) 920-4343;

iTunes is cool—but it’s never quite like the pleasure of skulking through an indie record store, past the Passion Pit 7-inches and Beastie Boys posters, and right next to that super-rare Crass EP. Well then, the fourth annual Record Store Day is for you—a day when bands from Metallica to Wilco celebrate the art of music. Swing by Rhino Records or Mad Platter today for some one-day-only releases from killer bands.

Mad Platter, 1223 University Ave. #160, Riverside, (951) 328-1223;; Rhino Records, 235 Yale Ave., Claremont, (909) 626-7774;

Send in the clowns—no, really, please do, along with the acrobats, jugglers, trapeze artists and, of course, the traditional big-top tent, as this traveling circus show celebrates decades of longevity by providing the real-deal circus experience, without having to use animals in the process. It’s family fun, old-school style.
