Yes, they block your way on the road. Yes, they wear skintight spandex for reasons beyond comprehension. But that fact is, bicyclers are in much greater shape than the rest of us. The more reason to participate in this year’s Citrus Classic Bike Ride sponsored by the city of Riverside. For one day, participants will ditch their vehicles and opt for the two-wheel counterparts to ride distances twice the length of Riverside to Los Angeles. This event supports K-12 education in Riverside, which will benefit the Riverside Educational and Enrichment Foundation and the Alvord Educational Foundation. Anthony Zahn, bronze-winning Paralympian and Inland Empire native, will headline the bicycle trek as well, leading the way for the 100-mile ride (a 49, 28, 7 mile and Kiddie ride will also be offered). And don’t forget the spandex.

2011 Riverside Citrus Classic Bike Ride at Ooka Restaurant, 3545 Central Ave., Riverside, (951) 826-5311; www.riversidecitrusclassic.org. $5-$75.
