“You know you are truly alive when you’re living among the lions,” wrote Danish author Karen Blixen (Isak Dinesen) in her gorgeous 1937 novel, Out of Africa. In its ongoing exhibition of the same title, the CCAA Museum of Art builds upon this premise by showcasing Africa’s natural beauty captured in the works of painter Joseph Pitruzzello and photographers Gilbert and Kelly Vela. The exhibition spans the entire continent with haunting images of Africa’s huge skies and sweeping vistas, animals on the edge of their own existence and the diverse people who populate these often-unforgiving lands.

“Out of Africa” at CCAA Museum of Art, Joseph Filippi Winery, 12467 Baseline Rd., Rancho Cucamonga, (909) 463-3733; www.ccaamuseum.org. Museum hours: Fri-Sun, 12PM-5PM
