Children’s Discovery Museum of the Desert Fundraiser Party
By Andy Cheng
“Here we have the very first discovery of ancient tumbleweed excavated by archaeologists.” The Children’s Discovery Museum of the Desert, in my childish and oftentimes perverted imagination, can’t get any better than cacti and Coachella. Actually, the museum is quite interactive, with more than 50 hands-on exhibits to educate children such as pottery and art classes, museum tours, cooking courses and seasonal camps. This particular event, however, is targeted more at adults, as the fundraiser party will feature a jazzy evening with music, hors d’oeuvres and drinks. The next day, the museum will be hosting an afternoon golf tournament with food and drinks on the course. All proceeds will benefit the museum and its capacity to show kids that they don’t have to move to LA when they grow up, and that the desert can be a stimulating place to live—and visit.
Children’s Discovery Museum, 71-701 Gerald Ford Dr., Rancho Mirage, (760) 321-0602; www.cdmod.org. 6pm and 12pm. $100 party, $300 golf.
