A rapper known for more thoughtful lyricisms than conventional rappers, Murs is an artist who’s gained moderate success (probably due to his critique of gang culture rather than his support of it) over the past 15 years. One of the founders of 3 Melancholy Gypsys and Living Legends, Murs collaborates with a handful of rappers in the underground hip-hop scene, having released seven collaborative albums and working with artists like The Grouch and Snoop Dogg. He’s performed at the Paid Dues Independent Hip Hop Festival almost every year since its inception alongside Living Legends and Felt. His most recent release Love & Rockets, Volume 1 reached No. 200 on U.S. rap charts (not to be confused with the comics). He’ll be making a stop at UC Riverside’s The Barn, a modest venue typically for up-and-coming artists and students who should be studying.

UC Riverside’s The Barn, 900 University Ave., Riverside, (951) 827-4403; 8:30pm. $5-$20.
