Snow in the Desert & Seeking the Present
By Joe Martone
The question of the day: What is art? The Living Arts Fund and First Person Magazine are leaving the answer in the hands of some of modern art’s boldest women this week. Creative Consultant Betty Nguyen will curate and critique an improvised exhibition of cutting edge artwork, provided by visionaries Eve Fowler and Anna Sew Hoy. Writer Trinie Dalton will get you and your friends expressing yourselves in a writing workshop with aid from the artists. Make yourself heard as you tweet your favorite feminist literary pieces, live streamed before everyone. If this all sounds a little heavy for a Saturday night, relax. Your brain will have ample opportunity to turn off after hours. DJ Asma Maroof and Korean jazz star Sunny Kim will be spinning records by the poolside and in the Amigo Room so you can dance the night away with “Fresh Sno Cone” in hand, courtesy of Blue Bottle Coffee Bar Pastry Chef Leah Rosenberg. This is a weekend not to be missed.
