To choose between the stifling hustle and bustle of city life and a refreshing small-town atmosphere of the mountains filled with local artisans and mom and pop stores should be an easy one but do you need even more of a reason to cruise up to the mountains besides the fresh air? Maybe the sound of you feeling better about yourself for attending the 19th Annual Idyllwild Jazz in the Pines because the proceeds help raise money to keep the arts education of Idyllwild alive and strong. Enjoy sounds from all types of jazz ranging from traditional to smooth to Latin and more with three stages that are sure to entice your eardrums. Go back in time and hear the Luther Hughes Cannonball-Coltrane Project pay homage to old jazz standards with a modern twist or let out the Latin beats with Johnny Polanco Y Su Conjunto Amistad. If you really want to get blown away, check out the 12-year-old guitar prodigy Ray Goren who you have to see to believe. In between the music, take the scenic route and cruise the mountain to check out the local artwork and try food inspired from all around the world. Now all that’s left to do is decide whether you want to rough it in a tent with mother nature or be pampered at one of the many lodges with all the comforts of home.
