Thru  Oct. 29

Fall is upon us and that can only mean one thing . . . Oktoberfest! All I want to say is thank you Germany for giving us all a reason to celebrate something besides Halloween in October. All month long Big Bear will be hosting the bigger and better Oktoberfest with more food, more games and most importantly . . . more beer! Two expanded beer gardens will have authentic German beer (alongside all of the usual beers you buy every day) and the Jagermeister stand will have a Shoot N Yodel contest where you take a shot then give yodeling your best shot. German strudels, brats, Bavarian dumplings and more will be there to tempt your German taste buds but Café America will be satisfying those non-German hungers also. As far as entertainment goes, the music of Die Mainfloesser Band and the Austrian dance group Die Trachten Verein Traunstoana will be imported for the most authentic German experience that will have you doing the ever popular chicken dance and Polka all night. If dancing isn’t your thing, how about participating in one or all of the contests offered like log sawing, sausage eating, stein holding and the safe slam beer chugging contest (it’s considered safe because they use O’Doul’s, but you should do it for the bragging rights). Don’t forget to pick up a stein to commemorate your time and save money on future beers inside the festival!

The Convention Center of Big Bear Lake, 42900 Big Bear Blvd., Big Bear, (909) 585-3000; 12pm. $5-$75.
