Star Wars Reads Day
By Jamie Solis
Ever since the words “A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away . . .” appeared on movie screens, fans of all ages have been drawn to Star Wars like white on rice. To be frank, we’re surprised fans haven’t already succeeded in getting Luke Skywalker Day declared a national holiday . . . though we’re sure they tried. While we can assure you that this holiday is certainly not happening, something quite similar is. Star Wars Reads Day—part of a national event encouraging fans to read books based on the space-opera franchise—is coming to Redlands in all its carbonite glory. As if Star Wars fans need more encouragement to read books about Star Wars . . . but we digress. Besides this being an opportunity to show off your Jabba the Hutt pajamas, Star Wars Reads Day at Barnes & Noble Redlands will feature raffle prizes, giveaways and an appearance by the 501st Legion of Stormtroopers. Don’t be a wermo—get your Death Star fantasy on, get your girlfriend to dress up like Princess Leia (as Jabba’s slave girl, natch) and step into the fray of galactic geekdom. With the films’ serious cult following and with one hundred million Star Wars books currently in print, you might want to consider showing up early for this event—speederbike parking runs out fast.
