That Presidential Touch

Surprise! Hollywood got the facts wrong again. The only people shocked by this are the historians of the A.K. Smiley Library and Lincoln Memorial Shrine in Redlands, according to the The Press-Enterprise. They even came together for a group discussion of Lincoln, which turned out to be one of the most attended in the history of the library. The inaccuracies, however, are apparently slight. As it turns out, the President’s wife really doesn’t have a lot to do with the legislative process (sorry, Sally Field) and the filmmakers may have placed some characters in unnecessary places or moments in time (heaven forbid). Nevertheless, the historians did have a universal consensus on their opinion of the film—they gushed over it. It was even praised as one of the most accurate depictions of Lincoln’s life that we will ever see. Well, at least this time Lincoln had some success in the theatre.
