December is the perfect time of year to try embracing new styles of music and this couldn’t be more apparent than with Grammy-winning performer Brian Setzer and his orchestra. By new music we actually mean old, with a guitar in hand and a voice that epitomizes the sound of 1950s rock, Sezter brings old-school swing to a modern stage. The rockabilly legend, known for being a part of amazing rock acts such as Bloodless Pharaohs and Stray Cats, will be bringing his 17-piece swing band along to play the sounds of the season. The show aptly named the 9th Annual Christmas Rocks! Extravaganza can be expected as nothing less than spectacular, blowing the traditional holiday tunes away. It’s exactly like being sent back to a ’50s-era diner and it’s your turn to cut a rug with the pretty girl in the poodle skirt. If you’re not sold on his style alone, know that he’s been nominated for seven Grammys, winning three, and he’s even won a Lifetime Achievement Award. This one-of-a-kind swing artists must be saving the best for second-to-last because we’re one of the last stops on his way through Southern California. Enjoy our recommendation until we shill the next yuletide revisionist that comes along.

California Theatre of the Performing Arts, 562 W. Fourth St., San Bernardino, (909) 885-5152; 8pm. $33-$115.
