Opens Sat, Feb. 9

As one of the longest running annual exhibitions in the history of Pomona, the dA Center for the Arts’ “Simply Red” revels in tradition as well as the instinctual relevance of the color red in our lives. Provocative, passionate and warm, “Simply Red” invites and allows for exploration and inventiveness with varied media in this annual open-call show. For some artists this will be their 25th year submitting work—for others it will be their first experience to share their work in a group exhibition in a professional gallery space. The dA Center for the Arts aims at supporting a future in the local art scene, and always includes a few annual exhibitions focusing on emerging artists, giving a balanced chance to artists in every walk of life. Oils, watercolors, graphic designs, ceramic sculptures, photography and mixed media are only some of the various avenues used to explore the color red as an expression, a feeling and a concept in this year’s show. “Simply Red” dates back to the late ’80s at the dA Gallery’s original location on Garey Avenue, but the valued tradition of annual show has kept artists and art enthusiasts alike coming back for more of this bright and vibrant hue.

dA Center for the Arts, 252-D S. Main St., Pomona, (909) 397-9716; daartcenter.org. Opening reception Sat, 5pm-9pm. Thru Feb. 23.
