The desert can be a place a mystery and a place of emptiness. It can also be a place that’s full of life if you know where to look for it. I’m not talking about the beautiful plants you can see growing in spring (even though they do look stunning under the desert sun) I’m talking about the Indian Wells Arts Festival. You can talk to over 200 artists of various talents and buy artwork directly from the creator. Purchase that lovely necklace and bracelet to go along with your new hand-made apparel. Get a new ceramic or glass vase for the house. You might also need a one-of-a-kind sculpture made of wood or stone for a table centerpiece. Take your own pictures or buy one from a photographer that already has his photos printed and on display. It’s not only there for those that want to buy, but those that want to look and learn as well. You can watch demonstrations of people working with their hands. See people sculpt in sand or stone, carve wood and throw pottery. Witness and glass blowing and the larger-than-life mural come to life right before your eyes. After all of the excitement of perusing through artwork and shopping, there’s no better way to unwind than indulging in some wine tasting and listening to the live bands. And we still haven’t even touched on the wine tasting and live music that’ll be there! And the scenic poster for the event was created by mother/son team Linda Lee and Dusty Kinman. It is very colorful and based on a photo they took of the scenic Indian Wells landscape themselves.
