A Golden Opportunity

_Bite Me LogoThere’s no way you could’ve missed the IE’s explosion of the cupcake businesses. Although the fad has died down since then, the remnants of cupcake businesses still exist in every city—but most likely it’s Casey Reinhardt and her cupcake business, Casey’s Cupcakes, that you heard of first. It took off back in 2011 when she was deemed winner of the Food Network’s show, Cupcake Wars.

Two years later, she’s still creating some unique flavors. The Orange Creamsicle Cupcake is the perfect sweet treat of summer  in Casey’s eyes (available through the end of August). A light orange-vanilla cake is topped with whipped vanilla pudding cream frosting, orange cream frosting, an orange candy and gummy slice, all sprinkled with glitter. Together, these toppings make an overly decorative but delicious treat.

What’s truly intriguing though is the Golden Velvet Cupcake. Just looking at it makes me feel like Charlie discovering a Golden Ticket in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (the good one). Deep down in its core, it’s a red velvet cake but you wouldn’t know it by looks alone. The pastry is covered in a cream cheese frosting, and adorned with 24 carat gold dust glitter and candy pearls. Actual gold—on food. As if cupcakes weren’t “rich” enough! This cupcake is available through September 29 for $4.50.

Face it, you’ll never be able to make cupcakes this good (but you can try with Casey’s new Red Velvet Cupcake Mix).
