Sweating Beads of Joy

Finding a restaurant that offers quality food on a consistent basis is a universal concern. Why spend money at a place that provides mediocrity? Rest assured that there is at least one small sandwich shop that is an exception to this—the marvelous restaurant of Citrus Deli.
Open for almost two years now, Citrus Deli is a family-owned and operated eatery offering a host of hot and cold sandwiches, wraps, flat bread pizzas, salads, vegetarian items and a number of outstanding sides.
I can’t hold it in—my absolute favorite item on the menu is the eye-popping Chili Cheese Dog. This down and dirty American classic starts out with an all-beef hot dog sitting inside of a soft roll with mustard and smothered with plenty of the restaurant’s award-winning, all-meat chili, shredded cheddar cheese and onions. Don’t write this off as your run-of-the-mill chili dog just yet. Having been a judge at many chili cook-offs myself, I can tell you that their chili is definitely one of, if not the best chili that I have ever encountered.
Owners Judy and Russell Barnes, along with their son Chris, have competed and won in numerous awards for their salsa, chili verde and their red chile sauce. They also won $10,000 at a celebrity food show and have been invited to compete in many world championship food competitions. Man, the Barnes family really knows what they’re doing.
Which explains the enticing layers of flavor of the Chili Verde Burrito, which features slowly cooked chunks of pork in their sancho blanco chile verde sauce with garlic, onions, tomatoes and green chilies all stuffed into a flour tortilla. It’s spicy but it will definitely make you sweat beads of joy.
As for the Citrus Deli’s subs and sandwiches, try the Spicy Philly. It’s a hearty compilation of sliced roast beef, roasted onions, bell peppers and mushrooms with pepper jack cheese.
Hold up vegetarians! If you are searching for some quality vegetarian dishes, Citrus Deli offers many one-of-a-kind sandwiches that you can guiltlessly consume, such as the Vegetarian Chili and a variety of veggie meat sandwiches. I also highly recommended Grilled Eggplant Sub which comes topped with plenty of Swiss cheese, fresh mushrooms, lettuce, tomatoes, sliced onions, bell peppers and mayo and mustard.
They also have a “killer” Chicken Caesar Salad Wrap and a delicious Flat Bread Naan Pizza, topped with a creamy spinach, artichoke spread (with or without chicken), Eggplant Parmesan, or Pepperoni.
Whether you dine in, take out or have them cater your next event or party, I know you will be extremely happy with the food items that come out of this small but mighty deli restaurant.
